Franklin D. Roosevelt
Before Franklin Roosevelt was President, his predecessor, Herbert Hoover had to deal with the Stock Market Crash and the Great Depression that soon followed. During Franklin Roosevelt's campaign for President he accused Herbert Hoover was fiscal irresponsibility and spending too much money. Once Franklin Roosevelt became President, he changed his tune. Not having any real vision on solving the Great Depression, he decided to go completely against what he campaigned on and saw that he needed to use government as a fix for the depression. The first wave of new legislative reforms in his first hundred days of his presidency designed to fix the problems caused by the Great Depression was known as the (first) New Deal. The first wave of New Deal programs were more of an immediate fix to the effects of the Great Depression such as creating Federal programs that would put people back to work and provide welfare to those who are in need. The first New Deal was criticized by socialists for not being radical enough changes and it was criticized by fiscal conservatives for eroding the principles of individualism. Franklin Roosevelt in a very bold move declared an executive order which put all people of Japanese descent into interment camps to be check out before being freed. Roosevelt to me is best known for "throwing caution into the wind" in his decisions.
